Mom I’m on TV!!!!
Gooooood morning folks :-) We want to start this week with something interesting. Last week we had a big solar flare on the sun that triggered a “severe CME” (coronal mass ejection) which made its way to our atmosphere on the 26th. The far north regions of the hemisphere will routinely see the Aurora dance across the sky, but larger CME’s bring the Aurora to more southerly places, like a bigger stone hitting the water causing bigger and farther reaching ripples in a pond. So, last week, we got to see a LITTLE bit of Aurora in Oregon :-) Nothing huge like seen in Iceland or Alaska, but hey- it’s special to see it all the way down here in Oregon! This shot is from Dixie Butte firetower about 50 miles east of John Day on 26.
Have a good week!
If I have any of the astronomy terms or actions incorrect, please forgive, I am just trying to explain it as I struggle to grasp it myself. Feel free to give the correct info in the comments!
We made out of the wilderness and we’re now driving back to Portland. Here’s a shot from last night’s campsite in the Eagle Cap Wilderness, Oregon. More photos, timelapse and behind the scene videos to follow soon!
The trip is shifting gears with new energy and clean hygiene of John Waller and Steve Engman joining the photo fray for the next four days! This is desperately good news. Blake and I are becoming delirious by day after staying up all night shooting, and I think Bill has been plotting to pull over for a bathroom break with intent to drive away and leave our smelly, non-showered bodies behind. John and Steve bring smiles, deodorant, and experienced minds ready to capture the beauty of Oregon.
We are currently enroute to the Eagle Cap Wilderness, where we will hike and stay at for the next 3 days. I’ve heard it’s a hard hike, but I have fresh worries since John has repeatedly informed us, “This is a hard hike, you will be thrashed by the time we make it up there.” ….I’ve never heard John talk like this.
Blake and I have been giving each other many worried looks.
Alright, I need to get, I got a signal to upload this.
Picture is from the fire tower last night.
Wish us luck!
I am up on top of the fire tower at Dixie Butte, setting up some new top secret time lapse equipment. I’ll give you a hint… it’s name starts with a “G” and ends with a “N.” Any guesses??? :-)
